Issue Position: Equal Rights

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018

Building a strong economy is only possible if it works for all Georgians--which means full inclusion and equal rights for everyone. Stacey Abrams will stand up for all communities. She was raised with the values of faith, family, service, and responsibility, and she believes in treating every person with basic human dignity and respect. Those are the Georgia values that will ensure every family has the freedom and opportunity to thrive.

As Governor, Stacey will:

Champion robust anti-discrimination laws to advance protections for all workers
Work collaboratively with legislators to ensure that protections against harassment are strong, comprehensive, and just, statewide
Reform the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity into the Georgia Commission on Human Rights, which will set clear pathways for harassment complaints and be a referral point for Georgia workers
Stacey's Record:

Fought legislation that would enshrine discrimination in state law
Supported marriage equality and advocated for comprehensive workplace protections
Joined the ACLU, Georgia Equality, and the business community in opposition to a bill that would have allowed taxpayer-funded groups to deny services to members of the LGBTQ+ community
Opposed legislation that demonizes immigrant communities
